Today, she stands with us, the suffering children of Eve. She asks us to often reflect on the Sorrowful Mysteries, so we understand that our pain of carrying the cross is our triumph over sins, the infernal enemy, the world, and the flesh. Catholic leaders worldwide mourn today the death of the Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on Thursday, on the feast day of the birth of the Queen of the Universe, the Most Holy Virgin Mary. Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history and the head of the Anglican Church of England, which separated from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534. The hope of many was that she converted to Catholicism before her death. Maybe on the Final Judgement Day, she did it. Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the archbishop of Westminster and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, said in a statement, that the Christian faith marked every day of the life and activity of Queen Elizabeth. Cardinal Nichols went on to cite her Christmas message from 2000. "To many of us, our beliefs are of fundamental importance. For me, the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life. I, like so many of you, have drawn great comfort in difficult times from Christ’s words and example." Bishop Patrick McKinney of Nottingham also expressed admiration for the queen’s faith. "We also want to pay our respects to the Queen as a woman of faith, as a Christian, whose faith always inspired and shaped the way she lived," he said in a statement. Bishop Hugh Gilbert, president of the Catholic bishops' conference in Scotland, said, "Her determination to remain active to the end of her long life has been an example of Christian leadership." Today, September 8, nine months after the December 8 celebration of the Immaculate Conception, is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Savior of the world's mother. St. Joachim was deeply grieved, along with his wife St. Anne, by their childlessness. They began to devote themselves to prayer and fasting, wondering whether their inability to conceive a child might signify God's displeasure with them. It turned out that the couple was to be blessed even more abundantly than Abraham and Sarah. An angel revealed to Anne that all generations would honor their future child: "The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth, and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world." Mary's parents, along with the temple priests, subsequently decided that she would be offered to God as a consecrated Virgin for the rest of her life, and enter a chaste marriage with the carpenter Joseph. Saint Augustine described the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an event of cosmic and historic significance, and an appropriate prelude to the birth of Jesus Christ. "She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley," he wrote. The Blessed Virgin occupies a unique place in the history of salvation, and she has the highest mission ever commended to any creature. We rejoice that the Mother of God is our Mother, too. At this time of new evangelization, the Enemy is taking advantage and confusing many prelates. A friend is sending us a horrific video of yoga practitioners inside a Catholic Church in Belgium. Every Wednesday in July and August, at St. James Church in Antwerp in Belgium, yoga classes were offered for its parishioners. The pews of the central nave near the altar were removed so the participants have an area for their "sacred space yoga". The parish priest and the local bishop were supporting the blasphemy. The infiltration of Hinduism and other anti-Christian ideas into Catholic spirituality is a fact. Maybe the prelates don’t know of the dangers of Yoga (rooted in the Hindu religion, where positions are salutations to the many Hindu Gods) and that Catholics should not practice it at risk of offending the First Commandment.
