We reaffirmed Christ’s Kingship by proclaiming His supreme power over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations. Are we behaving accordingly? A majority in our society seems not to be afraid of the Divinity. Most people act as they had full control and authority over the things of the world. They impose ideas against the Holy Spirit, even presenting their indoctrination as a universal truth. These false ideas result in pain and seriously damage the health of our soul. And when we separate from the Author of Life we fall into disgrace. Let’s repent, take our cross, and humbly accept that we must serve Jesus and Mary. As we say in the Our Father prayer, “Thy Will Be Done”. Joy comes to us when we accept Christ is the Holy One and the King of the Universe. One day the entire World will react and acknowledge this fundamental truth. Mary Mother of the Word Incarnate was humble, faithful, and pure to the extreme. She was the perfect disciple of Jesus. However, many—maybe a majority—feel lost. We are flawed humans; we don’t know how to handle our anxiety and fear. Jesus Christ is telling us repeatedly in this season of Advent that He is with us and we can rest on him. Last Wednesday's reading (MT 11:28-30) was eloquent. Jesus said to the crowds: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." We certainly know that we can trust in the resurrected Jesus. But how can we reach him in our daily struggle? We reach Jesus through the Virgin Mary. And we reach Our Mother in Heaven through Her Holy Rosary. Keep always a Rosary with you, and when struggle, fears, anxieties, and temptations attack you, hold firmly your Rosary, say a Hail Mary, a Mystery if you can, or even the entire Rosary of the day. He was an acclaimed contemplative writer. His poetry and studies on the soul are among the greatest works of all Spanish literature. He played a critical role in defending the true faith in the sixteenth century. He helped Teresa of Avila in the reform of the Carmelite Order, suffering for it many rejections, trials, and even prison by the elder friars. He died of a cruel disease, embracing the crucifix. St. John of the Cross's sufferings served to detach him from creatures and deepen his interior peace and devout longing for heaven. Ave Maria!
