Because of the disobedience of the first woman Eve, sin entered into the world. And because of the obedience of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grace and hope returned to Earth. That explains what human existence is about. God created Adam and Eve immaculate, without the original sin. But they both fall into disgrace, betraying the Author of the Life. They brought sin and death to everyone. Jesus Christ and Blessed Mary were immaculately conceived, too. But they both remained loyal and faithful to the Lord of all Creation. With Jesus and Mary, humanity was redeemed from sin and despair. The new Adam and new Eve brought us freedom, hope, and joy. Our human existence, as part of all the Creation, started to make sense. Our life would consist of purifying our souls by serving God and neighbors until fully joining—and enjoying—the Divinity. Ave Maria! The title refers to the house in Nazareth in which Mary was born, was saluted by the Angel, the Holy Family lived, and the Word became flesh at the Annunciation. The holy house was transported from Palestine to Loreto, in Italy, in the fourteen century, according to the tradition. Our Lady of Loreto was the first international shrine dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. For centuries, it has been a Marian center and revered pilgrimage site. He evangelized vast portions of Asia and was proclaimed patron of the missionary works. Born in 1506, in the Kingdom of Navarre, in Spain, Francis Xavier studied philosophy in Paris. Here he met Ignatius of Loyola and was enrolled as one of the first seven Jesuits. They all decided then to glorify God with their lives. Francis Xavier attracted to the true faith millions and inspired countless Christians across centuries. For this, your host is a personal hero. Not only because I was born in the same land of Navarre and had common ancestors—for the side of his mother—but mostly because of his unbreakable determination to spread and put into action the good news. In this Monday’s reading (LK 10:21-24), Jesus said to His disciples: "Many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it." Through the Holy Spirit, Our Father in Heaven often reveals to the littles ones truths that are kept hidden to the wise and the learned. You can be a Nobel prize winner but your pride and ego may block your ability to learn about the fundamentals of humanity. And you can be an uneducated old man or woman who daily prays the Holy Rosary who will be enlightened and knowledgeable. Many disregard or even mock the Rosary ignoring that the Immaculate Mary gave it to the Church as a salvation tool, eight centuries ago. "Prayer allows God to be close to us; it frees us from our loneliness and gives us hope," said Francis. "Charity is the beating heart of the Christian: one cannot be a Christian without charity." Question: Knowing that we can overcome struggle and suffering by talking to Jesus and by being merciful with others, why don’t we follow this practice? I’d say that it’s because we are imperfect and sinful. Saints understood that friendship with Jesus was the smart call. Unfortunately, we are not Saints—although we are called to—and we don’t act in our best interest. Let’s invoke Our Mother in Heaven to guide us towards an intimate encounter with Jesus Christ. The Eternal Light came to the World, as we see on the third Joyful Mystery that we pray today. Our Heavenly Father decided to send His Only Son to our dysfunctional World. He could have been impassive watching our sins and destructive fights. But He acted swiftly by sending us hope, salvation, and immortal life. His message was powerful: God is with us. That’s what Emmanuel means. In this Advent season, we prepare our heart, mind, and soul for the big news of the Word made flesh. We need to detect what’s dark inside us and remove it. We must come clean, converted, aligned with the path of Jesus and Mary. Let’s go to confession, pray, and love each other with renewed commitment.
