As we read this week (MK 6:1-6), He cured many sick, drove out demons, and performed mighty deeds. Despite these miracles, people refuse to trust in Him. Though we, the faithful, possess an understanding of the Eternal Word, our faith remains lacking. Christ Jesus dwells among us, yet we fail to recognize Him. In the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, He abundantly bestows His grace, but we persist in disbelief and ingratitude. One day, the whole truth will be revealed to each of us. Unfortunately, for many, it will be too late. The majority will realize that they've wasted their time on Earth. It's time to fully convert and place our trust in Him. Ave Maria! On January 25, the faithful celebrate the Conversion of Saint Paul, one of the great events of the early Church. This feast celebrates St. Paul's turning away from persecution of Christians to promoting Christianity. Saul was a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, born in Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia, and a Roman citizen. He was a student of the Pharisee rabbi Gamaliel and surpassed all his peers in zeal for the Jewish law and their traditions, which he thought to be the cause of God. Saul of Tarsus became one of the most fierce enemies and persecutors of Christians. He was one of the conspirators in the martyrdom of the holy deacon Stephan. He was suddenly converted on the road to Damascus when our Lord appeared to him in His resurrected glory (Acts 9:1-9). In other words, Saul, a blasphemer and a persecutor was made an apostle, and chosen to be one of the principal instruments of God in the conversion of the world. From a fierce persecutor, he became the great Apostle of the Gentiles. He made three missionary journeys which brought him to Asia Minor and southern Europe, and made many converts. Fourteen of his Epistles are found in the New Testament. He was beheaded in Rome around 66 A.D., and his relics are in the Basilica of St. Paul. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! There are different types of soil, which apply symbolically to ourselves. God is a farmer, sowing the seed of His word and His love on the path, the rocks, and the thorns, pouring out His love on those who are least likely to respond. We participate in the greatness of our Creator, His intelligence, and loving nature. This manner of creation brings us to understand the dignity of every human being. A person might be born with a disability or may suffer disability through injury or disease, but these deprivations do not affect his essential dignity. It's a simple truth: It is better to be alive than never have been in existence. As a result, we worship and love the Giver of this gift. This love is what moves us to protect the life of the unborn or any who might be unjustly treated. We are also led to protect women who might feel tempted or forced to commit abortion, as we know the devastating consequences that abortion will have in their lives. We have to do everything we can to convince the many perpetrators of abortion — medical personnel, pro-abortion activists, and politicians — of their errors, so they repent and change their ways, both for their benefit and for the benefit of society.
