In today’s Gospel (Lk 17:26-37), Jesus says that the days of his Second Coming will be like the days of Noah. "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all." In Noah’s time, sin was dominant. Humans decided to ignore God. It was a mess. A flood came and a righteous man built a giant boat, an ark, in the middle of the desert. Representatives of all the animal species, as well as Noah and his family, went on board. Salvation affected the whole of creation. Noah was a prophet sent by God and his ark to the temple and the Church of Salvation. The tribulation will take place before Jesus comes for the second time. Also called the Church of Holy Savior or the Church of St. John Baptist, the Lateran Basilica is "the mother and mistress of all churches of Rome and the world". This solemnity recalls that the temple of stones is a symbol of the living Church, the Christian community.
