Today is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), founder of the Franciscan Order. He was the first person recorded to receive the stigmata — the five wounds of Christ. At the age of 20, he decided to abandon everything for Christ embracing complete poverty and taking the Gospel as his rule of life. Out of humility, Francis never accepted the priesthood and remained a deacon all his life. St. Francis loved all of God's creatures. He is represented with birds and animals. Many parishes have a Blessing of animals or pets on this day. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Francis of Assisi, Pray for Us! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York

In today's reading (Lk 8:19-21), Christ Jesus says: 'My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.' Is he dismissing His own mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary? Not at all. What the Son of God is saying is that our own family should not be our ultimate priority. God is the cornerstone of our lives. Christ Jesus is our mission, without any other attachments. Mind you, by following Jesus, we properly set our values and honor our family—truly loving our wives, husbands, kids, and relatives. This way, we all build the Kingdom of God and walk together to Heaven. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York

Yesterday's parable of a landowner hiring laborers and paying them equally regardless of their amount of work was a demonstration of the unfathomable mercy of God, rather than a reflection on equal rights. Any saint, whether known or unknown, who endeavors to share the love of God with their neighbors, profoundly grasps the essence of this parable. Furthermore, such an individual finds joy in understanding that life is about desiring the good for others. Ultimately, the Lord, who embodies perfect and pure love, illuminates our deficiencies in love. Heaven represents the epitome of love, and our earthly journey is a preparation in terms of love. As St. Catherine of Siena eloquently stated, "The way to Heaven is Heaven." Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Padre Pio, Pray for Us! The prophet Isaiah reminded us that God's ways are not our ways. We have to read through these lenses in today's reading (Matthew 20:1-16A). The Divinity's vision of justice differs from ours. The parable of the landowner who goes out to hire workers at different hours and pays each the same wage shouldn't disturb us. When the owner contends, "Am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?", should prompt us to thank God for His goodness and generosity. Today's vineyard parable should give us new hope and courage. It may be the sixth, ninth, or even the eleventh hour of our life but we can still earn heaven if we listen to God's call and set to work diligently in His vineyard. We just need to be loyal to Him.
