To achieve the everlasting life, we should share Christ’s merciful love, as we learned in the Parable of the Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37), last Sunday. One way to express love and compassion for one’s neighbor is to perform the "works of mercy." It’s not just a matter of having good feeling. We must do something else. We must serve him. There are fourteen works of mercy: seven spiritual and seven corporal. The spiritual are: To convert the sinner; To instruct the ignorant; To counsel the doubtful; To comfort the sorrowful; To bear wrongs patiently; To forgive injuries; To pray for the living and the dead. The corporal works are: To feed the hungry; To give drink to the thirsty; To clothe the naked; To shelter the homeless; To visit the sick; To visit the imprisoned; To bury the dead. Ave Maria! In today's reading (MT 9:32-38), we Jesus seeing a crowd "troubled and abandoned," and his heart was moved with pity for them. That's how the unfathomable Divine Mercy works. The Holy Spirit comes on our rescue, in all power to save us from our sins and despair. The hope then gets restored and we are back to life. There is no light, freedom, or joy outside of Jesus and Mary. Our society tries to seduce us with promises of well-being. But those are empty promises that lead to darkness in this earthly life and in the upcoming one. Ave Maria! Today in the U.S. is Independence Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. On this national holiday, we give thanks for the gift of life and the birth of this great nation. We also pray that God will strengthen America, get rid of evils, and make this nation an example to the world in the defense of life, family, faith, and freedom. This is a great day for being grateful and spending time with family and friends. Happy Fourth of July! Ave Maria! In today Sunday's reading (Lk 10:1-12, 17-20), Jesus said to the newly appointed seventy disciples that they were sent "like lambs among wolves", although anointed by the power of God to proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, cure the sick, and dominate demons. The Lord Jesus observed Satan falling from the sky to become the ruler of the world. Also said, that "the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few." This picture of two-thousand years sounds familiar today, isn't it? The Gospel is timeless, and the enemies of the truth, today with new clothes and speeches, continue among us. Through the Holy Spirit, which comes in prayer, we collaborate with the Divinity facing difficulties and building the Kingdom of Heaven, hoping that as a reward names might be written in heaven. We need to be extremely careful with what we speak. Not because of the judgment of the world, but for the judgment of God himself. Talking about the need of bearing good fruits, Jesus Christ said (Matthew 12: 36-37): "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." The day of the judgment is approaching for all of us, and we must think in this reality. Speaking in a careless and unmerciful way is really dangerous for our soul. By our words we might be condemned. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York [ Second Year Anniversary | In the Memory of María Blanca ]
