Fray Junipero Serra converted thousands of Native Americans, and expanded the true faith on the West Coast. He brought the Native Americans not only the gift of faith but also a decent standard of living. He baptized over six thousand people and confirmed five thousand. Pope Francis canonized him in 2015, during his first visit to the U.S. July is traditionally associated with the Precious Blood of Christ, a reminder of his redemptive work. Ave Maria! Today, while we celebrate the end of the abortion at federal level, we observe the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion that symbolizes the Son of God's boundless and burning love for humans. Throughout history, saints and scholars have pointed to the Sacred Heart as the fountain of love poured into our lives. In the late 17th century, the devotion to the Sacred Heart was extended following the revelations to St. Marguerite Marie Alacoque. Jesus Christ promised the French nun Alacoque that "all those who rendered this honor to His Heart would be endowed with an abundance of heavenly graces." She also wrote: "Jesus disclosed to me the marvels of his Love and the inexplicable secrets of His Sacred Heart." Jesus promised that, in response to those who consecrate themselves and make reparations to His Sacred Heart, that: He will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. He will establish peace in their homes. He will comfort them in all their afflictions. He will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death. He will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings. Sinners will find in His Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. He will bless every place in which an image of His Heart is exposed and honored. He will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in His Heart. In the excessive mercy of His Heart that His all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in His disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the prophet-saint whose life was an example of humility and courage. Ordinarily, the universal Church observes the day of a saint's death as his feast, because that day marks his entrance into heaven. There are two notable exceptions, the birthdays of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist. Why? Mary, in the first moment of her existence, was free from original sin, and John was cleansed of original sin in the womb of his mother Elizabeth. God wanted to announce to men His own coming through John the Baptist, who represented the Old Covenant and the Law. John the Baptist was born in a town of Judaea, six months before the earthly birth of Jesus Christ. He came only to prepare the way of the Lord. He preceded the Redeemer and he baptized the author of Baptism (Although sinless, Jesus chose to be baptized in order to identify Himself with the human lot). "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand," was John's repeated theme. Finally, John the Baptist shed his blood gloriously triumphing over the world. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Today, the universal Church of Jesus Christ dedicates the day to three saints: Paulinus of Nola, John Fisher and Thomas More. In a way, the history of humanity is the history of the saints. The sacrifice of these holy souls, along with our daily prayer and charity acts, keep the world moving forward without falling apart. St. Thomas More was Chancellor of King Henry VIII in England. He was the perfect public servant. A family man (father of four children), eminent lawyer, and literary scholar. A synthesis of human sensitivity and Christian wisdom. He was martyred — beheaded on Tower Hill, London, in 1535 — for his belief that no lay ruler has jurisdiction over the church of Christ. An intensely spiritual man, he didn't support the king's divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn. Nor he didn't acknowledge King Henry as supreme head of the church in England, breaking with Rome. Four hundred years later, in 1935, Thomas More was canonized a saint of God. Pope John Paul II named him patron of political leaders. Thomas More did not compromise his moral values in order to please the king! Ave Maria! But their goal is ultimately to deny the divinity of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and eliminate the magisterium of the Catholic Church — which is the mystical body of Jesus Christ. Our answer is prayer and specifically the Holy Rosary of Mary. In the end, the Father of Lies will be defeated, along with his collaborators.
