Surrendering to the will of God is key to a joyful earthly existence. But due to our sinful condition, we don't see it that way. We prefer to explore other pathways. That's how we consume our poor existence on earth. Why? Because we reject suffering, that is, we reject the mystery of the cross. Jesus taught us that the path of discipleship is the path of self-sacrificing love, and that means the path of suffering. John Paul II said that if we leave everything in the hands of God, we will see the hand of God on everything. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! + Mikel A. | TheRosaryNetwork.org, New York

St. Bernadette, the visionary child of Lourdes, reported that she prayed the Rosary with the Blessed Virgin. Imagine that eternal moment. The Immaculata spoke to St. Bernadette in the Lourdes' dialect which the child saint grew up with, and prayed the Our Father and the Glory Be. Naturally, the Virgin didn't say the Hail Mary. She wouldn't pray to herself. Bernadette stated that a golden rose rested on each of Our Lady's feet. When Bernadette asked the Virgin her name, she said: "I am the Immaculate Conception." Ave Maria! The Most Holy Mary revealed herself as the "Immaculate Conception," confirming the dogma defined by the Pope four years previous. Our Lady asked Bernadette to drink from an unseen fountain at the grotto. She also called for a chapel to be built there. When Bernadette scratched at the ground, a stream of pure spring water surged forth. This stream demonstrated healing properties. A basilica was built upon the rock of the Massabielle, consecrated two decades later as the "Church of the Rosary." Since then, Lourdes continues to draw pilgrims from around the globe. Seventy officially recognized cures — medically documented miraculous healings — and hundreds of "unofficial" healings have been reported at Lourdes. The shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! There are three steps that might help us to reflect and meditate upon the prayer: thanksgiving, offering, and petition. Through Thanksgiving, we show gratitude to God for all the benefits we have received from Him, including our faith. When Offering, we try to repay our debt of offenses by making some good resolutions. Through Petition, we acquire consciousness of our weakness and frailty and we implore the help of God. Ave Maria! At the end of each mystery, when we say the Glory Be, we honor the Holy Trinity by giving thanks to God. Gratitude means to be redeemed and sustained by the grace of God. And while gratitude is a virtue most worthy of cultivation, ingratitude makes us fall. The Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton said that "gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder." Ave Maria!
