So when we prioritize our foolish interests bad things happen. As Pope Francis said, those with political responsibility must make a serious examination of conscience before God. Since Russo-Ukrainian War began in 2014 in the east of Ukraine, the conflict has resulted in 14,000 dead people and 1.3 million being driven from their homes. Out of the Son of God, there is no life. That's why in today's reading (Mk 8:34-9:1) Jesus said to the crowd – meaning all of us: "What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?" We lose our life when we refuse to follow Jesus. And following Jesus means to take up our cross and deny ourselves. It seems like a paradox. Wishing to save our life by our own means results in losing the life. And saving our life for Jesus and the Gospels' sake results in true life. "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the Gospel will save it." Ave Maria! The family is the domestic Catholic Church, as it was said. The parable of the prodigal son (Lk 15:11-13) reflects very well why God loves families, and why Jesus comes through a family. Jesus said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours." It means that material goods end up not satisfying us. Being unattached from material things and pursuing treasures in Heaven, which are eternal, is the Divinity's advice.
