The Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived free from original sin. It means that Mary received the gift of salvation in Christ from the moment of her conception. The universal Church had this belief from the beginning. And in 1852, Pope Pius IX proclaimed this dogma in the solemn declaration titled "Ineffabilis Deus." It stated: "The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin." Later, in her holiness and purity, Mary would willingly accept the Plan of God for her. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in 1830 in Paris, instructing her to make a very special medal. All who wear it would receive many graces. The medal showed Mary holding a golden globe symbolizing the world. On her fingers, there were rings emitting rays of light and graces. At her feet, She stood the serpent’s head. Framing the image in an oval were the words: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." St. Catherine then saw an image of an M upon which was a Cross. Underneath the M was Our Lord's heart crowned with thorns, and Our Lady's heart pierced by a sword. Surrounding this image were twelve stars. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! In yesterday’s reading (Lk 17:11-19), Jesus Christ King of the Universe, author along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, of all things, reminded us that faith is saving us. The Evil Doer cheats us, making us think that only what we physically see and hear is real. When you suffer a loss, as I experienced four weeks ago, your tiny world collapses. In despair, you seek answers. The only one that heals and responds is Jesus Christ and His divine Mother. Looking for social or work distractions and support from people without faith doesn’t work at all. If you need to talk, do it with faithful relatives and friends. If they have experienced a loss and see life through the lens of the true faith, you are fine. Folks living for God will share your burden and will inspire you to bring the cross. Ave Maria! As Christians following the True Faith, we must always be grateful to the Lord Jesus because we live for Him. The lack of gratefulness is an offense, as we don't recognize His glory and what He did in the Cross for each one of us. And a historic note. The first Thanksgiving in the U.S. was actually a Catholic celebration. Over five decades before the Mayflower, a group of Spanish colonists celebrated Mass and had a feast with native Timucuans in what would become the oldest settlement in the U.S. — St. Augustine, Florida. In addition, a group of colonists settled at Santa Fe, along with Franciscan missionaries, held Mass, and a great feast with the natives followed. Moreover, hundreds of towns established by the Spaniards in the New World celebrated Thanksgiving masses. The U.S. was Catholic before arrival of the Puritans. The first Thanksgiving was Catholic. An apostasy is underway in many parts of the world, and in some parts of the Catholic Church. Given that, we need to react and discern where is the truth. And the truth always is Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Last Sunday, He told us in the Bible reading (Jn 18:33b-37): "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." Friends, we’ve received the grace from Heaven of being witnesses of Lord Jesus, and that’s a gift that surpasses our understanding. We must be patient and persevere in our fight for the Lord.
