Like the Holy Virgin, if we die in God's friendship, we will rendered “immaculate” (Latin, immaculatus = "stainless"). Even in this life, God purifies and trains us in holiness. And if we die imperfectly purified, He will purify us in purgatory. We reflect upon all of it in this month dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Friends, we have only one thing we can offer to Our Father: our freedom. The Christian paradox is that if we offer Him our freedom and fully embrace the true faith, He will set us free. He was the one who introduced his brother Peter to Jesus, saying, "We have found the Messiah" (Jn. 1:40-42). Andrew and John were the first disciples to follow the Lord. He spread Christianity in Russia and Asia Minor in the first century. He was crucified by the Romans at Patras, in southern Greece, on a cross in the form of an "X". This type of cross has long been known as "St. Andrew's cross." St. Andrew sacrificed daily to almighty God. The Good Lord came to the world through the Blessed Virgin Mary to save us from our darkness and sinful behavior. God wants us immaculate after we resurrect — and for that, we need to learn to carry our own crosses graciously. Advent also reminds us of Christ’s glorious second coming, as we read yesterday in the Gospel. The second coming — the return of Christ to earth at the end of time — is an invitation to reflect on our final days and how to vigilantly prepare for that moment. In other words, in this waiting season, we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ at Christmas and his coming at the end of human history. Ave Maria!
