With the help of St. John of the Cross, she reformed most of the Carmelite convents and founded new ones. Teresa of Avila achieved the highest degree of prayer and through prayer obtained an amazing knowledge of divine things and reached a mystical union with God. St. Teresa composed these well-known lines, which we can use as simple prayer to calm our nerves: Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All is passing. God ever remains. This memorial day was instituted by Pope St. Pius V in thanksgiving for the naval victory over the Turkish Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Lepanto on this day in the year 1570. This victory saved Western Hemisphere from being dominated by the forces of Islam. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe. As Marian Pope Leo XIII wrote in one of his encyclicals, "It has always been the habit of Catholics in danger and in troublous times to fly for refuge to Mary." Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! In one of the readings of last Sunday (Mk 10:2-16 or 10:2-12), Jesus explained how God joins together marriages, making wife and husband one single flesh. Exactly the same way that it happened at the beginning of creation with Adam and Eve. The holy marriage is part of the divine salvific plan for men and women. Our society rejects God and therefore rejects both natural and sacramental marriages. This reflects how sinful we all are. Instead, we defy the Holy Trinity and engineer ideologies that only benefit Satan, the enemy of the human race. Obviously, these false ideas cause despair and murder here on Earth and eternal condemnation for the next life. What an awful deal for all of us! • October 5, 2021, Rosary Today 7:30 pm ET, YouTube.com/TheRosaryNetwork • Audio Podcast available by 6:00 pm ET Today, Tuesday, October 5, we honor, among other saints, one of the favorites of The Rosary Network: St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the contemporary mystic, a Polish nun who became the apostle of the Divine Mercy. Jesus Christ entrusted her with the mission of proclaiming to the whole world the old, eternal message of his merciful love for all people, especially sinners. In 1931, Jesus appeared to Faustina as the King of Divine Mercy. He asked her to have a picture painted of him as she saw him — clothed in white, with red and white rays of light streaming from his heart. The rays represent the blood and water that flowed from the side of Jesus on the cross. Under the image are the words, "Jesus, I trust in you." The Savior appeared to her several more times; Faustina recorded them in the diary. St. Faustina died of tuberculosis at age 33, suffering greatly in her final years. With St. Maria Faustina Kowalska started the Divine Mercy Chaplet devotion, a five to ten minutes prayer recited over the beads of the Holy Rosary. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You!
