In St. John's Gospel is known as Nathaniel. Jesus said of him, "Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him" (John 1:47). St. Bartholomew was a good Jew, honest and innocent, a man well-read in the Scriptures, who recognized Jesus as the Son of God. After the Ascension of Jesus, St. Bartholomew evangelized Asia Minor, northwestern India, and Armenia. He died as a martyr in Armenia. He was dramatically burnt to death, and while still alive, his skin was torn from his body. He is often portrayed as a skinless man holding his own skin. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Isabel Flores de Oliva was born in Lima, Peru, in 1586, and she died at the age of 31, praying, "Lord, increase my sufferings, and with them increase Your love in my heart." Inspired by the example of St. Catherine of Siena, she chose to consecrate her life to God. She joined the Third Order of St. Dominic in Lima. Hers was a life heroic in virtue, prayer, and penance. She devoted herself to works of active charity while living in extreme austerity. St. Rose of Lima suffered repeated attacks from the devil, and from her family, calumnies. In reward, she experienced heavenly joys, comforted by her holy guardian angel and of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Pope Pius XII, in the Papal Encyclical Ad Coeli Reginam, established the doctrine on the Queenship of Mary, rooting it into the Scripture. In the mystery of the Annunciation, Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth called Mary "mother of my Lord." Mary's queenship is a share in Jesus' kingship. Exalted above all saints and angels, and standing at the right hand of Her only-begotten Son Jesus Christ, Mary deals with the affair of our salvation. And concerned with the whole human race, she intercedes for us.
