As chief pastor of the Church, he was an intrepid defender of the purity of the Christian doctrine. His simplicity and kindness were irresistible to everyone. He had said in his will, "I was born poor, I have lived poor, I wish to die poor." Today is also the feast of Our Lady of Knock. The Virgin Mary appeared in the village of Knock, in Ireland on August 21, 1879. Our Lady appeared with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist, a Lamb and cross on an altar at the gable wall of the parish church in Knock in County Mayo, Ireland. Imprisoned in this death camp, he offered himself in exchange for the father of a large family who was to be executed. Filled with love for the Virgin, he founded in 1917 – the year of Fatima apparitions — the Militia of the Immaculate Mary. It was an evangelization movement intended to promote a Marian consecration and "win the world for the Immaculata." Maximilian Mary Kolbe developed an intense apostolic mission in Europe and Asia by creating newspapers, magazines, and radio stations. He was an "apostle of the mass media" and a ground-breaking theologian. He understood and promoted the role of Mary as "Mediatrix" of all the graces of the Trinity, and "Advocate" for God's people. The enemies of the true faith have set in the world a false humanism, and a large part of Christianity has fallen into this trap. Sadly, this behavior seems to be promoted by too many prelates. The point is that almost no one doesn’t want to be seen as rigid and doctrinal. We mostly prefer to live in the world and get along with those who are tactically against the faith. We cheat ourselves by saying that we are just trying a new and more charitable approach. In the reality, we are hiding, and even denying, our own personal sins, with the complicity of society. Our mission here on Earth is not based on pleasing everyone nor fixing the problems of the world. Our exclusive mission is to be saints by pursuing personal holiness. It seems that we Catholics have fallen in one of wickedness and snares of the Devil that we mention in our daily Saint Michael’s prayer. Ave Maria! Is this an unrealistic request? Can a large population be converted? The power of prayer is real, and miraculous things will happen as a result of it. We recently read (Mt 12:38-42) about the conversion of an enormous city, Nineveh, that required three days to walk through. Nineveh was one of our large, modern cities, dominated by all sorts of worldly activity and preoccupation. Its conversion happened after the citizens of Nineveh heard the word of the prophet Jonah and turned back to God as the only enduring good. Ave Maria! The Immaculate Mary is the Christ-bearer, the bridge to Jesus. Many believers have difficulty understanding the role of Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of all grace roles of Mary. The divine motherhood of Mary — the Theotokos doctrine — is a mystery revealed to us. When this mystery is rejected, personal holiness and salvation get much more complicated. We trust in Mary’s intercession, as we learn in the fifth Glorious Mystery. The devotion to Mary that we will honor this August 15, on the solemnity of the Ascension, has always remained oriented to Jesus Christ. Ave Maria!
