The Pharisees wanted everyone to comply with all of those norms. They behaved like any religious leader today who makes a living around a system of laws. Jesus Christ saw arrogance, aggression, self-interest in the old system, and commanded anyone to reconcile first with their neighbor, and later follow religious duties—as we read last week. (Mt 5:20-26). Christianity teaches us that if we do not have love and charity, we have nothing. The Kingdom of God on Earth requires human fraternity with our sight in Jesus and Mary. We perform acts of charity and practice this virtue of the Second Joyful Mystery because we see in our suffering brothers the face of Jesus Christ, not because it is cool and fashionable, as the new age philosophies try to impose today. We believe in Jesus Christ, and reach Him through the Virgin Mary, simply because we have learned by grace that this is the only truth and we want to achieve salvation. Ave Maria! We celebrate the papacy and St. Peter as the first bishop of Rome. He was one of the three apostles who were with Christ in the Transfiguration. He also was during the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane and was the only Apostle to whom Christ appeared on the first day after the Resurrection. As we read today in The New Testament (Mt 16:13-19), Jesus made St. Peter the head of his earthly Church. However, St. Peter was not without faults. He fell asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane instead of praying, and he also denied knowing Jesus three times after Christ’s arrest. Peter won a large number of converts and performed many miracles. The Prince of the Heavenly Host defeated with the power of God the Evil Doer and his many evil spirits. We too can win this battle we are in. Today, in the New Testament we read that Jesus Himself was tempted by Satan (Mk 1:12-15). The Son of God remained in the wilderness of the desert for forty days—the same time period of Lent. Like Him, we experience the temptations of the agents of darkness today. The World may fall—and maybe is falling—but we need to resist. We invoke St Michael the Archangel, the Virgin Mary, Queen of the Universe, and St Joseph, Terror of Demons, to receive their assistance and win this battle. After His stay in the desert, Jesus came victorious and proclaimed that “this is the time of fulfillment”. Our earthly and eternal health is at stake. Let’s imitate Jesus Christ. Ave Maria! The two shepherd kids, age 9 and 11, were declared saints on May 13, 2017, a hundred years after the apparitions of the Virgin. They were the youngest non-martyrs to be canonized in the history of the Church. Our Lady asked them to pray the Rosary and showed them a vision of hell. Francisco and Jacinta died of influenza in Lisbon, offering her suffering for the conversion of sinners, peace in the world, and the Holy Father. Ave Maria! St. Francisco and St. Jacinta Pray for Us! Many of them are taught by experts with Ph.D. titles, who explain that the mindfulness practice reduces stress and contributes to well-being. The Vatican has warned about the danger of these practices. They may open the door to darkness. Self-centering and believing in a sort of cosmic energy goes against the eternal wisdom and truth of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. And it is contrary to what we pursue during Lent. Our earthly life is, certainly, stressful and we need to heal. The Holy Rosary is the best meditation ever. It is a summary of the New Testament not created by humans but by Divinity. The cultivation of the virtues attached to the twenty sacred mysteries results in holiness and peace in our daily life and opens the door of Heaven. Anyone who prays the Rosary can attest to this.
