The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, whose memorial is on September 15. We also celebrate two more Marian feasts: the Nativity of Mary (September 8) and the Holy Name of Mary (September 9). The Exaltation of the Holy Cross is on September 14. The Holy Mother Church sings of the triumph of the Holy Cross, the instrument of our salvation. Also, it thanks God for the blessing of Christ dying on the Cross, which opened the gates of heaven for mankind. Other important memorials we specially like to celebrate at The Rosary Network are: St. Matthew (September 21), St. Padre Pio (September 23), St. Vincent de Paul (September 27), and Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels (September 29). Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York

They led us to the original sin through the disobedience of Adam and Eve. In many ways, we continue in the same manner. Many behave like little gods, deciding what is right and wrong. Consider this week's reading (Matthew 20:1-16) where laborers hired by a landowner demanded to be paid more money than those who worked fewer hours. The landowner — the Creator of the universe — replied: 'My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?' Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last." The ways of God are not our ways. His deeds are perfect and eternal. Questioning Him with our impoverished minds and sinful condition is absurd. We should surrender and ask Him to take care of everything! Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Today, August 24th, is the Feast of the apostle St. Bartholomew, also known as Nathaniel. He was a doctor in Jewish law and a seeker of the truth. As a close friend of St. Philip the Apostle, he had the opportunity to see Christ. He recognized the Savior immediately as the Son of God. On that initial meeting, Jesus uttered the glorious compliment: "Behold, an Israelite indeed in whom there is no guile!" After the Resurrection, St. Bartholomew was favored by becoming one of the few apostles who witnessed the appearance of the risen Lord on the sea of Galilee (John 21:2). After having received the gifts of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost, Bartholomew evangelized Asia Minor, northwestern India, and Greater Armenia. Here, while preaching to idolaters, he was arrested and martyred. The Armenians honor him as the apostle of their nation and they proudly claim they were the first Christian State. Ave Maria! Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), the first canonized saint in the Americas. Inspired by the example of St. Catherine of Siena, Rose became a Dominican lay tertiary and devoted herself to works of active charity while living a life of extreme austerity. Hers was a life heroic in virtue and penance. Through the practice of penance, she expiated the evils perpetrated by the conquerors in their lust for gold. St. Rose of Lima suffered repeated attacks from the devil, painful bodily ailments, and from her family, scoldings and calumnies. All this she accepted serenely, remarking that she was treated better than she deserved. She experienced the comforting companionship of her holy guardian angel and of the Blessed Virgin. Rose of Lima died at the age of 31, on August 24, 1617, praying, "Lord, increase my sufferings, and with them increase your love in my heart." Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Eight days after celebrating Mary's Assumption into Heaven, we commemorate the Memorial of the Queenship of Mary. This feast is a prolongation of the celebration of the Assumption. Down through centuries, Popes, Doctors, and Fathers of the Church have given authoritative expression to the truth of the Queenship of the Holy Virgin. This title is applied to the Mother of God since she is closely associated with the redemptive work of her Son — "The King of kings and Lord of lords" — and the Mediatrix of all graces. In October 1954, Pius XII, by his encyclical letter of October 11, 1954, following a unanimous desire of the faithful, instituted the Memorial of the Queenship of Mary. The same union of Mary with Christ Jesus is the fountain of the efficacy of her motherly intercession in the presence of the Son and of the Father. Pius IX wrote in his Apostolic Constitution Ineflabilis Deus: "More than all the angels and all the saints has God ineffable freely endowed Mary with the fullness of the heavenly gifts that abound in the divine treasury; and she, preserving herself ever immaculately clean from the slightest taint of sin, attained a fullness of innocence and holiness so great as to be unthinkable apart from God Himself, a fullness that no one other than God will ever possess."
